PHAB subject to The Private Hospitals (Regulation) Act is responsible to the Minister for registration, control, and regulation of the business of private hospitals and persons and organizations running private hospitals.

In accordance with the Private Hospitals Regulation Act, 1977 and the Amendment Act, 1991, board discharges the following core functions: -

1. Analyze, determine and advise the Minister on permit applications made by persons and organizations;

2. To check and advise the Minister of any suitable areas for private hospitals;

3. Maintain and maintain a register of registered persons;

4. Subject to any direction of the Minister, to perform any other functions which may be assigned to the Board by any law or arising out of the exercise of its functions under this Act.
